The procedures for applying to Alberta Opportunity Stream has undergone a few changes to make it more lenient for graduates interested in registering for the Alberta PNP Program (Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program). The announcement regarding the modification came on 29th November 2019. 

In its new regulations, Alberta has rejected the list, which consisted of Alberta Advanced Education Approved Post-Secondary Credentials, a part of Alberta Opportunity Stream. Earlier graduate students needed to finish courses on this list to be eligible. Following the alterations, completion of a specific study program is not compulsory. However, the job role of the candidate needs to relate to the field of study in Alberta.

What is the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program?

Alberta offers immense job opportunities for Canadians and international workers. The erstwhile Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program, or Alberta PNP Program, in short, has thus gained much popularity among immigrants as an enticing employment program. This program is now known as AAIP or Alberta Advantage Immigration Program, which helps secure permanent residency in Canada to train employees and entrepreneurs from foreign countries. The process is fast-tracked, and the entire processing period is short, spanned between four to six months with the help of a new portal.

Necessities to Qualify for Alberta Opportunity Stream

It is required to meet specific categories to be eligible for enrolling in the Alberta Opportunity Stream. Candidates must comply with these conditions while applying and when the Alberta PNP Program assesses the application. 

All the suitable candidates must be able to produce legal temporary resident status with an authorized job offer. The work experience must be for a minimum period of a year. The individual must also engage in a profession that qualifies. Temporary residents or refugees do not qualify for the Alberta Opportunity Stream or enroll in Alberta PNP Program.

As mentioned earlier, the candidate must work in an eligible profession recognized by the province. Alberta has also published a list of ineligible occupations that prevents specific candidates from applying. 

There is also a benchmark of language requirements to be eligible for the candidature. Test report cards should accompany the application that meets the minimum CLB level 4 or Canadian Language Benchmark in English and French. For certain candidates like those related to nursing and patient services, the test score should be a minimum of CLB level 7 for both English and French.

Under the educational criterion, the candidate must complete a minimum of high school in their own country. From January 2021, the requirements have changed to a minimum of high school standards equal to Alberta province.

Elaborating on job experience requisites, the candidates must meet a minimum of a year’s. Work experience in their current job-based in Alberta in the last eighteen months or a minimum of 2 years. Of full-time job experience in the current profession throughout Canada in the last thirty months. It can also be a combination of experience in Canada, Alberta, and abroad. The candidate must be able to provide a full-time job offer with an employer in Alberta with continuous payment and current organization being the same. Part-time employees are, however, ineligible for application. 

Applicants between the age of 18 and 35 can also travel to Canada for the purpose of the study. A student visa for Canada requires a legal passport, bona fide letter of acceptance by a recognized institution, passport size picture, exam scores of English proficiencies, a statement of purpose, and a valid credit card. However, it is worth noting that it is a popular educational destination. With an increased number of applicants, it is pretty tough and time-consuming to secure a student visa for Canada.
